life’s BEN better

August 2nd, 2005 by marv

the other night i was supposed to go to a party and see some old friends, some of which ive not seen in 10 years. instead, i ditched them and went to see ben folds in atlanta. and it was worth it. what a great entertainer and what great songs.

the last time i saw ben folds was in 1996 or 97, before any of you knew about him. yes, i am acting like a pretentious pitchfork writer. in those days i went nowhere without my polaroid camera, and i caught ben and darren (the drummer from the benfoldsfive) walking out of the local burrito bistro. they stopped and we spoke and they let me take their picture.

this is where the polaroid would go if i could actually find it. sorry. so instead of the polaroid ill post a picture that came up first on the google image search i just did for “ben”:

this is benjamin charles o’kanski. he was born by cessarian on june 10, 2002 at 11:16pm, and he has his own webpage called “ben’s playgroud.”

i should get ben to do the marvelous site since joey won’t get off his lazy ass. by this point, ben is probably just now learning how to form sentences, and i guarantee he wouldnt give me as much lip as joey does. in fact, i think ben should be added as a full time member of the marvelous collective. afterall, all of us here at tmc enjoy crying, suckling and pooping our pants.

album of the week…

August 2nd, 2005 by marv

ok, so im still not really over the sufjan record yet, but i thought it was time to put a new record up on the blog. not that any of you people give a crap, but im bored and needed something to do.

since im still so high on sufjan’s illinoise, i thought it apropos to serve up a band from illinois, the FRUIT BATS. i think “spelled in bones” has been rated mediocre at the majority of places like pitchfork, but thats because those guys have their big heads stuck up their you-know-where. this music is simply fun and catchy and ive caught myself singing along to it out loud and dancing to it numerous times. and i work in a library. people really dont appreciate such shenanigans in the library.

so, heres to the fruit bats for making me look like an even bigger doofus than normal and for being a sun-shiny spot in my work day.
