that new thingy…

so i am a few days behind joey in adding my album of the moment, and i know all three of you out there have just been on pins and needles. but its worth the wait, especially if you love derivative, schlocky, cute, geeky music. because thats just what CAMERA OBSCURA is. and its great.

if one were to make a souffle (how do you spell souffle? nevermind, lets use the word casserole instead) casserole of mod music, then the recipe would go like so: using a heaping helping of velvet underground, add 3 teaspoons of diana ross (yeah, i said mix v.u. with a splash of diana…stay with me) and blend with a little mopey morrisey. if you are out of morrisey, then substitute with gracious amounts of belle and sebastian. bake with a deadpan delivery, wear your buddy holly protective eyewear to prevent any kitchen injuries, and prest-o! a casserole fit for geeks, sheiks, blips, polits, mods and rockers. just be sure to wear a bib. we wouldnt want any spills on your favorite cardigan sweater, would we?

wait a minute, i forgot that these guys are from scotland. forget the flippin’ casserole. its haggis time!!!

a new thingy

January 4th, 2005 by joe

like anyone cares. this is the first installment of the “CD of the week” installments. i call them CD’s even if they were bought totally digitally, like on itunes or something. although i don’t enjoy the purchase of tunes from the i , i do confess, i do it from time to time. i’m a sucker for album art and liner notes – gotta have something to read on the can, right? to make a short story long, here’s my pick this week…even though this CD came out in late 2003, it’s one of those that just got it’s second wind in my car, thanks to the new DVD that came out last month. So, the CD of the week will from now on be the main disc that has heavy rotation in my car and yes, my iPod, regardless of release date.

this week, the sheer genius and infection of David Bowie’s “Reality”. yes, like a true artist, he did the whole CD art and design. and played the stylophone. look it up. it’s cool. and the music is badass.

don’t you feel better? stay tuned my darlings, whomever you are.
